Luke worked his way up the 65 foot mast to change a burned out light bulb. That dot at the top is Luke.
And from the top down...
This is the "view from the top" of the marina dock. Just a little marina with a few boats. There is a little restaurant associated with the marina, clean showers and toilets, a pool and hot tub, loaner bikes and van, laundry facilities, diesel/water/electricity, and a great staff, all tucked in a safe crook in the ICW. oh, and for a reasonable rate! We like it!
It's a bit lazy here. The restaurant cat, Catfish, thinks so, at least until there are active diners on the porch. He's laying in wait, I'm sure.
Shrimp/fishing boats idle up the river after their nightly catch, with flocks of seagulls in hot pursuit.
Those lazy, dangling Smokey feet are just waiting for an unsuspecting head to walk by. She's fast when it's to her benefit!
Right now Luke is working on getting the black water holding tank (yes, that is what it is) in the aft toilet to show how full it is. That is VERY important! mmm...update --- need to buy a new sensor part and install it. sigh.
We had a great little trip to Savannah, about 1 1/2 hours north. We met sailing friends there for lunch, then spent the evening and night with sister-in-law Beth. On our way back yesterday, we actually saw a fighter jet riding a truck!!
Provisioning and checking out the rest of the boat components will take a few more days. The do-list doesn't seem to be getting short fast enough. My boat sewing machine has officially died (it's only 60 years old) so I'm getting a new, heavy duty machine for Christmas! Gotta pick it up in before we leave.
Last night we joined about a dozen dock mates and went to the Jekyll Resort Club for their Manager's Happy Hour (many of us in that marina courtesy van!). Seems that every other Tuesday the Club offers $1 drinks and plates of their famous appetizers generously offered by servers throughout the crowd. It was a lot of fun.
The only casualty so far is one of my toes. I managed to break one by slipping on a bit of wet surface and bending it the wrong way while wearing flipflops. Other than really hurting, it isn't going to slow down our departure. I prefer to think of it as getting the body damage part of the trip over with and all will go well from now on!
