We left our Wal-Mart early Monday morning, just as the 6
a.m. workers were arriving. Taking
a non-interstate route to Michigan, we
slowly cruised through small town after small town. Americana of yesteryear. No
McDonalds, Burger King, Staples, Lowe’s, all the present day icons. We much prefer that type of route. Just farms,
and small towns with less than 5 digits of population
Actually, that was a large town compared to many we
saw. I call them the “3G” towns –
consisting of government ( old Post Office), God (older church), and gas
(overpriced). Only a very few houses along the highway, with a population signs
of between 92 and 303.
We haven’t seen much wildlife. Well, there was a dead red fox, but he
certainly is no longer wild. We did see
a mama turkey with a brood of the ugliest gray little chicks ever! They were checking out the grasses on the
side of the road. No pictures, I’m afraid.
I caught Luke emptying the “black water” tank. The fun of RV’ing! I appreciate running toilets every time we
have to do this!
Finally made it to Michigan. Luke spent a time here during his childhood, shortly after his parents moved from Belgium to the US. Since we were going to be this far north anyway, we planned this as our last tourist area before heading home.
Our campground doesn't have phone connections so internet is going to be as I can find it. Found McDonald's today!
