It always take too long to leave the house - there always seems to be just one more thing we want to take with us! But we finally managed to leave and had a safe trip here.
Smoke was most unhappy this morning -she knew something was amiss and it would involve her. She tried hiding but she's no match for
me! Then she just settled down and slept the whole way on the back
floorboard. She seems to actively like the boat and has checked out all
of her hiding holes and now is settled down for the night on the bed, beside me
as I type. well, the electric blanket IS on...
I had minor finger surgery this fall, a little bone spur, arthritis, and such. The incision has healed and I was doing fine. A few days ago I just barely
scraped the top of my incision area with a fingernail. It didn't
bleed or split but apparently the abrasion was just enough to allow
bacteria to enter. It has slowly but surely gotten sore, swollen, and
painful. I called the ortho today and his nurse said to get my buns in
to a dr and get an antibiotic. So we spend a few hours at an urgent care facility this afternoon after arriving here. Very nice place and wonderful doctor. I've got my meds and directions to for moist compresses.
My Rx was $100
generic as prescribed, $40 for a generic with the same active ingredient but something slightly different in the coating. The pharmacist swore it doesn't make any difference. But the long shot is that those are my costs using my Rx card. If I bought it without using insurance? $25. Thank goodness for local,
small pharmacy guys who care!
Lots more to put away tomorrow. Tonight the perishable food is stowed and the bed is made. It's been a long day and we are all 3 ready for our first night of this winter 2014 sailing trip on Latitudes. Good night!

Ready to go to Latitudes
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
Ours was special - dad, Heather, and Nikki were here for a happy, warm Christmas. We skyped and talked with kids and grandchildren in CO, and friends were enjoyed - the season was just as I hoped it would be.
Now the house is denuded of Christmas color, with the exception of the new blue mousie that Smoke got for Christmas ----Mousie is VERY much in demand!
If the garage is loaded with bags and boxes, you know it's time to move aboard Latitudes!
The plan is to leave tomorrow and drive south. Hope it will be warmer! We will move aboard Latitudes, spend New Year's Eve with Bonnie and Peter in Oriental, NC, and then sail southward as soon as we can get provisioned and such. There is a good chance that sailing buddies Mimi and Otto will be able to set sail in their boat at the same time! From the look of the garage, you wouldn't believe there is more to provision, would you!?
Smoke was sleeping...like a cat... on our warm waterbed earlier on "her" soft blanket, new Blue Mousie given a rest also. A little suspicious of the packing activity, but Smoke decided to ignore it in hopes that ignorance is bliss.
Actually, Smoke likes being on the boat, but the 6 hour car ride is something that she would rather leave to dogs. She will just sleep in the back floorboard or in the passenger's lap while we ride.
This is always a bitter-sweet time for me. Of course I look forward to our sailing, seeing sailing friends, meeting new people, and spending the winter in the warm beautiful Bahamas. But I'm always sad at leaving our family and friends for a few months.
Smoke is "helping" me post by sleeping on my lap while I type but Luke is seeming to need a little help with that big pile in the garage. I'll post again when we get to Latitudes!

Almost Christmas!
It's almost Christmas, and that means it's almost time to move back aboard Latitudes! Our stockings may not be hung from the chimney with care, but the mantel is decorated.
And the buffet, complete with a cookie tray that Nikki made for us last Christmas!
Even the old frig got into the spirit this year~
We've enjoyed friends and family this season, and are looking forward to a nice Christmas with family.
After Christmas, I will take my dad home, return to Roanoke, and we shall load up the car with all sorts of necessary things, including Sweet Smoke.
New Year's in Oriental with friends, and then off to either sea or the intercoastal, depending on the weather. I'm sure there will be a few days of boat work and provisioning before we leave, too.
So, I'll begin blogging again and will keep you updated as to our schedule (such as it is!)
