We made it! Left from Key Biscayne this morning at 5:30, motor sailed for 50 miles eastward, with mild southerly breezes and only a slight 1-2 ft chop. Crossing the Gulf Stream made our direction of travel as much as 25 degrees different from the direction we were pointing. Made safe landfall in Bimini, The Bahamas about 7 hours later! Just as we remembered....
We heard that 35 boats left FL this morning for the run to Bimini - long overdue, as there has not been a good weather window for well over a week. The marinas here are full. There seems to be a spirit of first come-first served regardless of reservations, as we listened on the marine radio as the afternoon wore on. Thank goodness we arrived here moderately early, and have a nice slip, in company with friends Bonnie and Pete. The cruisers in this marina had a communal Happy Hour at, of course, 5. Fun to meet new people!
Looks like we'll be here for several days due to weather. Winter cold fronts passing through every two to three days make for rapidly changing and pretty high winds. But that's ok - we like Bimini. And we HAVE made it to the Bahamas!

Wonderful news. Congratulations on just BEING there. I know it was a long tedious summer and fall with Luke's ailments, so you guys should really enjoy.
Wish we could be there in the warmth.
