We had a great time in Savannah, visiting with Beth and seeing other friends. It was nice to have the time to get errands done and chores accomplished with a fully mobile Luke :-)
From Savannah south, we're seeing more shrimp boats. This is one that was working the Skidaway River, right on the ICW where we were anchored.
Our intentions were to leave Savannah on Sunday, but the weather didn't cooperate, so we left around 9am on Monday. The trip out of the Ossabaw Inlet was uneventful and our plans were to sail all day and night to St. Augustine, FL. Unfortunately, the seas got more rolly than we anticipated and by 9pm we knew we didn't want to go all night. We tucked into the St. Mary's Inlet, on the GA/FL border. "tucked" is a nice word --- actually the inlet is 6 miles long, wind was gusting terribly, and the seas were rolly. Of course, it was dark. And we weren't feeling too good by then, but Luke did a great job of getting us in and at an anchorage.
oh, as we prepared to leave our dock in Savannah, we watched 2 dolphins come right up into the dock area, between us and the shore, and actively herd fish up against the shore, not 20 feet from us. They were big, beautiful, and just magnificent to watch. They were there for at least 10 minutes.
It's raining steadily today, so we'll sit. We're hoping for clearer weather tomorrow, but later this week it's supposed to get down to 19 at night!! We came to Florida for 19???!!
Our anchorage now is on the GA/FL boarder, St Mary's GA and Fernandina Beach FL. We'd like to see Fernandina Beach tomorrow before we leave. It will take a couple of days to reach St. Augustine, where we'll take a day to sightsee. 2 more days on the ICW to New Smyrna Beach to visit friends for a couple of days, 2 more days to Vero Beach to visit friends, and then to the Ft. Lauderdale area to see friends. With good weather, that means the first of February to the Bahamas. But they are still in our plans!

where else will you be hanging out in FL? My in-laws are members of a sail club out of Hillsboro Inlet if you get down that way and need anything.
