To St. Augustine, FL

Well, we started with good intentions. Luke got up at 6 and turned on the heat (yea!!!) and we both got up before 7 to get an early start to St. Augustine. We were out of our anchorage and on the way by 7:30. Not 2 miles later, we came to the McCormick Bridge, which just happened to be closed until NOON for work on the old bascule bridge behind it.... sigh... We anchored and waited it out.

It wasn't a worthless wait. On the side of the river were 2 wood storks! I've never seen them before and they were large and beautiful. I didn't get any pictures, but here is a link http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/birds/wood-stork.html

Another web page I read said they are endangered, down from 60,000 birds to about 9000. We were so fortunate to see them in action!
A large part of our trip today was 10 miles down the Sisters Creek. 10 miles of one huge, beautiful, expensive house after another... they are set side by side, each taking up absolutely as much real estate as possible. A couple of small examples ---

It took about 4 hours, but we did make it to St. Augustine. Tomorrow we sight see. We are anchored in a large public anchorage. An osprey perched on the top of the mast on the boat next to us, with her prize fish in talon. It was amazing to watch her with that large fish.

We were also treated to several flocks of black skimmers flying past the boat.

The weather today was nice, clear, sunny, and up to about 65. It's supposed to be 28 tonight, 48 tomorrow, but we are still determined to go see St. Augustine. So, weather permitting, pictures tomorrow!
