FINALLY! Rain, wind, and snow may not stop our mail lady, but they will sure stop us! Just a little frosting of a couple of inches, but boy, can those roads on our mountain can be bad....beautiful, but bad.
Finally on Monday we took the plunge. Make that an icy plunge. We worked most of the morning to get everything done, but it was still only 9 degrees when we started the RV to warm up and defrost the windshield around 11a.m. And this was the result of having 2 little heaters and the propane heat running all night. No wonder we're heading south!
We made it a whopping 325 miles and finally stopped late in the afternoon around Chattanooga at a Walmart for the night. A quick (it was COLD) run into the store got dinner for us. WM $5 rotisserie chicken and salty mashed potatoes! Oh, the good life....
It was a quiet night, but restless for both Smokey and us. It is always a little strange the first night out in either the RV or boat. Today we did a major 500 mile run all the way to Picayune, MS. This was made possible only by the time change. A gracious Tractor Supply here offered to let us stay in their parking lot after filling our propane ("it's not well lit, but it's safe and the police patrol it 3 times each night") The WM here was less gracious "NO".
Tomorrow we have a whopping 45 minute run to our first campground on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain, just north of N'Orleans. It was already dusk by the time we finished getting propane. No night time driving for us in this beast. We will leave early tomorrow in the forecast rain and settle in for the next few days. All of us are ready for a few days of non travel. AND NEW ORLEANS!!!! Can't wait!!!
