Westward into WY:

Little Smoke on patrol – she does love to monitor her world.

We again set out on the endless roads of WY.  Flat and winding, you can see the road forever. And for the record, let me say that I am not impressed with the quality of Wy's roads.

Along the road, the stark, gray buttes so common here.  They are amazing.

We arrived early afternoon at our new site, located in Boysen State Park, near Shoshoni, WY (population 469…).  This is a much kinder, gentle site than we’ve had recently.  We are facing the Wind River, have shade trees, and are not crowded by other RV’s.

This morning we set out to drive north, going along the Scenic Highway through the Wind River Canyon.  First sign that we are in a rural area….

Second sign… right on the yellow no-passing lane...

We saw a big Pronghorn buck, lounging in the grasses.  He was not slightly bothered by our presence.

Park of the Wind River has been turned into a lake, thanks to a whopping 216 ft dam.  Here it is, with the nice lake.

On the other side of the dam, we were alerted to several big horn sheep.  We caught 2 of them on camera.

The Wind River runs through the Wind River Canyon.  It is wide and gentle here, beside one of the many campgrounds.

As the terrain changes, the river does also, becoming more lively.  There are several Class 4 rapids on the river (and Luke definitely wants to give them a try, via white water rafting!)

The canyon walls seem to rise forever.  It is truly an incredible landscape.

The end of our little ride today was in Thermopolis (staying there later).  Thermopolis is home to the “world’s largest hot spring”.  I believe it is!  The air is full of the smell of sulfur.  A boardwalk allows you to stroll along the edges. We plan to go “do” the hot springs in a few days.

So much for now – this 2 hour time change is wreaking havoc with my body time!
