As mentioned yesterday,
I-70 goes right through St. Louis, giving us a great view of the Arch.
Past Ft. Riley and it's many helicopters.
The road is rolling and endless.
Our shady rest area, in a lot set aside for RV over-nighters. We were the only ones. That is Smokey at the front of the RV, helping me take her for a little walk.
Our rest area was "fenced" by attractive stone "fence posts". Didn't pay much attention but as we drove out this morning, along I-70, we kept seeing signs announcing that we were in "rock posts region". Didn't get a picture, but here is a short article about them (with a picture). Just click on the following 2 words -
rock posts
The endless wind turbines began popping up as we climbed in elevation. There seem to be more than last year.
And climb we did - we climbed over 4000 feet in 387 miles! That and a stiff headwind was not conducive to improving our gas milage! But our "rig" keeps on rolling!
The small town of Flagler CO was along I-70. We are familiar with Flagler Collage in St.Augustine and the rail system that Henry Flagler drove down into FL. Well, seems the same Mr. Flagler also brought the rail to CO to help haul western products back east. Nowadays, Flagler is known as the "Birdseed Capital of the World" as the Wagner Birdseed plant is located there!
Our trusty RV is in another Wal-Mart parking lot, the last for a few weeks. Tomorrow we shall head into the Rockies to Gunnison CO and the "Black Canyon of the Gunnison", said to be a small Grand Canyon. We will stay there almost a week, along with Lisa's family. We camped with them last year and had fun - especially with grandson Simon!
