Ahhh….mountains in the distance! We see the Rockies in the distance, snow
still on the peaks. This is how we see
them from inside the RV J
Finally, at our campsite, with a beautiful view (neighbor’s
camper excluded).
Here are the mountains in the distance, again from our
campsite.
The campground is located in the Gunnison National Park
area. This area includes the Black
Canyon of the Gunnison (to be visited later).
There are numerous walks (to be done later). Also, a marina at the lake. Of course, that was visited first. The water is terribly low, about 60 feet, we
hear, but still home of a small marina and a few motor and sail boats. The water level is highly dependent on the amount of snow pack from the last winter.
The only local fauna we’ve seen is the Western Bluebird. This sweet guy is standing over his birdhouse,
worms in beak, waiting to feed his young.
The local Observatory
had a program planned, along with viewing on Saturday night. Unfortunately, it was too hazy to see much
except half moon moon and a fuzzy Venus. This
is a local venture, the building paid for by contributions; built by local
volunteers. It features a 30 inch reflector telescope which did a great job of the terminator craters of the moon. Saturn was scheduled, but obscured.
Lisa, Mat, and Simon arrived late last night. A rain shower
meant an indoor activity – dominoes with Bompa!
Ok, sorta dominoes – this was “match 6 tiles and we can stack them up and
knock them over”. Simon loved it, especially the knock 'em over part!
Internet is really unavailable from the camp ground, so we're posting this from beautiful downtown Gunnison. We'll continue to post, but probably not daily.
