Florida

Aaaaa... you know you're in mid-Florida when the trees lining the ICW are finally palms

The small spoil islands lining the sides of the ICW are filled to overflowing with white pelicans (and the endless double-crested comerants)

and the RV parks...oh, my, the RV parks along the ICW.  Our friends Ali & Charlie call these "parking lots".  Can't imagine more fun... that pink flamingo is about to fly into the neighbor's RV...

And, this is Florida, so let's not forget the occasional Ice Breaker that is anchored just outside of Cape Canaveral

Her name is the Princess Grace.

We did go through the Haulover Canal today, just north of Cape Canaveral.  This is, for some reason, one of our favorite little canals.  It's short, proably not more than 1/2 mile, but it's nice.  There are always little fishing boats there; the shores lined with friendly folks who are fishing, socalizing, and just relaxing.  All sorts of birds are around, as well as dolphins.  The draw bridge in the middle is a nice touch and always ready to open for the sailboats.

Little Smokey was happy this morning, ready with her usual helpful ways when her daddy went outside to do a little maintenance while we were under way.

But the wakes from the passing Sunday recreational boats and fishing boats finally got the best of her and she did what she does best....when the going gets scary, the scared hide behind the toilet...

That is not a pleased look that I'm getting.

Tomorrow (again, weather permitting) we will motor the last 30 miles to Vero Beach, winter home of many happy cruisers.  In fact, it's so popular that cruisers find it hard to leave, gaining it the nickname of "Velcro Beach".  We have great plans to see several of our friends while we're there.  We're looking forward to it.
