"Published" Photographer!

Well, we have exciting news --- at least for us --- I'm now a published photographer!!! (the blog doesn't count....) The local newspaper was running a photo contest to win tickets for the "Cirque de Soleil: Quidam". They asked readers to email them "one image that represents the idea of freedom or escape." I submitted my Rum Cay Government Dock photo. Didn't win but got Finalist!! The photo was published in the paper today. It was fun and I'll gladly take Finalist.  It's nice to be able to share with others the beautiful places we've been fortunate enough to visit.

Here is the photo I submitted.

Meanwhile, back in the current world, it's a rainy, dreary, cool day.  Smokey is settled comfortably in my lap and I have very little inclination to get up.  Thank goodness for recliners and NASCAR...

Like father, like daughter

I'm finally feeling better enough to go to Charlotte to visit dad.  Poor Luke, he's the designated chauffeur, go- getter, and handler for we two handicapped souls. For the last two days we've taken dad on errands....at every stop Luke goes to the trunk, takes out the walker, opens it, presents it to dad in the front seat, goes back to the trunk, takes out my scooter, opens it, and presents it to me in the back seat.  Dad and I scooter and shuffle away while Luke closes the trunk, moves the car from our drop-off zone, parks it, and catches up (usually before we get 20 feet). When we conclude the particular errand, Luke fetches the car, meets us at the handicapped pick up stop, and the whole process is repeated in reverse.  Off to the next stop, where we start all over again.  Luke loves it....sure he does! Dad uses his walker on a regular basis; I hope to have this scooter only another 3 weeks.  Note the spring cast - gotta go with the season!

Back home to sweet Smokey on Saturday.  I'm sure she's missed us!

As a "teaser" for you locals, check out the Extra section in the Roanoke Times paper this Sunday!!!!

Much better

It's been a little over 2 weeks now and I'm feeling much better.  I find I can get out and about a bit (with my trusty knee scooter, of course).  The pain is usually gone and I feel better overall.

We went to the doctor's a few days ago and had the initial surgical bandages removed, replaced with a cast.  Do you know how many cast cover options there are these days?  Puppy paw print, cammo, the American flag, all the usual colors, and more.

With March Madness upon us, I had to go with Carolina Blue.  The Tar Heel in me never goes away.

I'll spare you the picture of the actual incision, but trust me, I was most stunned at the size.  At least 6" long, with 13 stitches, across the top of my ankle bone ---- no wonder it hurt!  The doctor said it was a most impressive injury.

I do still have to spend a great deal of time sitting with the foot propped up.  Smokey loves that.  Luke is doing a great job of being a house-husband and care taker.  Another month and hopefully I'll be able to put some weight on my right foot.  That will be a huge improvement in my life!
