Bompa, Ears, and NCAR

Fun in Lisa's yard...Bompa - yes, Luke is from Belgium and that is Flemish for "granddad"...(I am Bomma...)..let's see where was I ..Oh ,yes, Bompa made the mistake of helping Kiran and Evelyn fill up water guns.  You KNOW where this is going!

Splat!  and a lot more splats!  Evelyn had an umbrella and Bompa had a very wet shirt!

It was Evelyn's big 7th birthday!  So, first, we all set off for the Cheese Importer's restaurant in Longmont.  Wonderful food, store, and fun for all families.

Next, pierced ears for the birthday girl!  Have you seen "apprehension" lately?  In a 7 year old?

But, all went well, as the girls at the shop doubled up and did both ears at the same time.  Evelyn barely flinched!

Now adorned with beautiful ears, we drove back home in more pouring rain and had a great pot luck dinner at Erin's.

Today, we all set off for NCAR - National Center for Atmospheric Research - in Boulder.  Here are a couple of great links to NCAR

The building is beautiful - design based on the Mesa Verdi ruins.  There is a nice little visitor center, cafeteria, and wonderful hiking trail.

The Rocky Mountain background is spectacular.

Evelyn and Erin sat quietly and watched the scenery.

But that didn't last for long, as the three cousins declared that they were tigers in the tall grasses.

and then, as boys will be boys, Simon and Kiran set off together.

Tomorrow, Luke and I plan to leave way too early and head up into the Rocky Mountains, probably to Brainerd Lake, a wonderfully beautiful lake and alpine meadow that we have explored before.
